THE POLITICS OF THE GARDEN TAX: FAKE NEWS IN THE DAILY MAIL

What was getting the Daily Mail in such a tizz?

Could it be this item in the 2017 Labour Party Manifesto?  (on p.86)
“We will initiate a review into reforming council tax and business rates and consider new options such as a land value tax, to ensure local government has sustainable funding for the long term.”[1]

HOME-OWNERS REJOICE!
THANKS TO THE ‘GARDEN TAX’ (LVT)
YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR UNEARNED WEALTH!

Yes, it will be you. You are one of the lucky ones. You have watched the ‘value’ (price) of your house rise faster than inflation, sometimes putting on more value per month your salary.

Then along comes Corbyn and his army of killjoys who want to take your accumulated wealth away from you with their fiendish Garden Tax.

To make matters worse, many of you will be paying vastly more than the Council Tax it replaces.

But fear not! In the long run—very long run, 30 years or more—it will all work out beautifully. Nearly every home-owner paying this Land Value Tax (to give the Garden Tax its proper name) will benefit.

MYTHS ABOUT THE HOUSING MARKET

MYTH No 1: “House prices are rising”

Wrong! A house is a man-made artifact, and like every other manufactured item it depreciates from the day it is built. What is rising in price is the other part of the property: The land on which it stands. Remember the old saying about location, location, location.

Firstly, is the house in a nice spot, on a quiet road with pleasant views and a garden? Secondly, is the house near transport, shops, good schools and entertainments? And Thirdly, is your town or city thriving with lots of jobs on offer?

These are the things that give value to the plot of land on which your house stands. And you’ve probably noticed that it is Society collectively that creates this land value, not the individual landowner.
